Utah, you’re in for the finest kind of surprise as The Book of Mormon, one of Broadway’s wittiest, cleverest, and most comedic musicals is arriving and performing in Salt Lake City on Thursday 23rd January 2025 at the one and only George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater! Produced from a collaboration of the creators of the famous comedy TV series South Park and the musical Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon features two Latter-day Saints (LDS) missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they try to convert local villagers in Uganda. In the same fashion to their previous productions, the musical takes the serious subject of religion and satirizes it through both script and music.
As Ben Brantley of The NYC Times shares, just like South Park, it is “also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show”.

Welcome to one of the most spacious and world-class musical theatres, George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater is proud to host the Book of Mormon on January at Thursday 23rd January 2025. Known for its world-class staging, sound design, and architecture, George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater is already loved by both locals and foreigners in Salt Lake City as its top musical venue.
The musical runs at 2 hours and 30 minutes, the Book of Mormon was a new and fresh addition to Broadway theatres when it debuted over 10 years ago, back in 2011 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. The inventive take on the Book of Mormon was a box office success. In just the first nine months of the show, it broke the weekly box office record 22 times!! By mid-2022, it had already grossed more than $1 Billion Dollars around the world. Over the past decade, the show amassed awards worldwide as well, ranging from Tony Awards, Grammy Awards, Olivier Awards, Drama Desk Awards and Helpmann awards among other citations.
The Book of Mormon integrates the themes of faith, culture shock, and classic theatre into its comedic musical. Its plot features two very different Latter-day saints (LDS) missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, its main characters, as they are tasked to preach their faith to convert the local population of a remote village in Uganda to Mormonism. This proves to be more difficult than expected however, as they learn that the village faces more urgent affairs such as poverty, famine, an AIDS epidemic, and even oppression from a local warlord. Faced with the challenge, it is Cunningham who is able to successfully preach to the villagers with assistance from the local leader’s daughter, Nabulungi, and an original approach . Though not as competent on the Mormon doctrine as his fellow Mormons, he creates relatable stories that are a combination of fact and fiction, drawing information from science fiction and fantasy works such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings that lead on the villagers more to convert. The two ways of Price and Cunningham clash, orthodox and unorthodox respectively, as they both try to conceive the best way to achieve the mission they set out for in the first place.
