How deep can you dig to find happiness, in a life that is so deliberately is trying to prove you wrong? The story of Kimberly Akimbo, might just be all about that, and more. Written at the start of the millennium by the award-winning David Lindsay-Abaire, Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that revolves around the notion of Time, Identity, and Resilience.
Kim is a intellegent, funny, and determined Jersey Girl, with a condition similar to Progeria, A disorder that gave her the appearance of a 72-year-old woman, making her physical age 4x older than she is. Directed by Jessica Stone, the cast starred Victoria Clark as Kimberly, with Justin Cooley, Alli Mauzey, and more. The performance has won several highly regarded awards including 5 Tony Awards!
The 2h 30m performance, which premiered on Broadway in 2022, is a walk through an average teenager, with an uncommon condition, going through ordinary high school experiences. Such as her first love, dynamic family, and teenage identity crises. Presented by the astonishing George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater, the musical is debuting in Salt Lake City, on Wednesday 11th December 2024. The performance merges the two polarities of a teen, one struggling with challenging aging issues, and the other as a standard teenager going through her phases.
The musical has the ability to strike a chord on the audience by fusing self reflection, and judgement, regarding one’s life point of view and the strength to challenge suffering. While packing so many life lessons secretly, the show can also be incurably funny, and dark! Kimberly uses her humor to cope with life and much of the emotional burden that was unfairly placed on her shoulders.
Kimberly’s dearest relationship is with Jaff her friend, a sophomore, who likes to tingle with his words, and emotional complexicity much of the time. Besides her fullfilling relationship with Jeff, one can hardly say more, her mother “Pattie”, is a hypochondriac, frequently farthest and emotionally unavailable often seeming to be caught up with her drama. “Buddy” Kimberly’s father is an probelm drinker who usually fails to demonstrate a good father figure, and then there is “Aunt Debra” dubious con-artist, who’s entire interest was pulling successful plots at any cost.
Don’t undermine the show by the coloring, and braces, Kimberly Akimbo can take you on an emotional rollercoaster, of inspiration, frustration, and hope, all at once. This masterpiece will join the gathering in the fabulous Salt Lake City, on Wednesday 11th December 2024, at the splendid George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater. Secure your spot now, and enjoy some good old musical at just $122.
